Come participate or cheer your favorites in swim, bike and
running events at our beautiful Smith Mountain Lake State Park.
May 3-21st ANNUAL
TAKE PRIDE IN SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE CLEANUP DAY
2008 marks
the 21st annual clean-up. Just about the whole community gets involved
in sprucing up the lake for the coming summer season. Volunteers can
register individually, as a group or organization. Call the Chamber for
more information.

The opening of the spring golfing season at the lake is a
much-anticipated event by golfers from the surrounding communities.
TOM MAYNARD MEMORIAL POKER RUN May 17
Poker game played on water with great prizes for winning and losing
hands, best appearing boat and crew plus a welcome dinner with
entertainment and a special boating safety orientation.

July 4th-INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS
Loaded with fun, entertainment and grand fireworks, two major events
take place at two different marinas to celebrate our nation's
independence.
August 2008
August 9-18TH ANNUAL ANTIQUE & CLASSIC BOAT SHOW -
Mariners Landing,
1037 Whitetail Drive, Huddleston, VA 24104 for the Antique & Classic
Boat Show. The event is open to the public Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. While the event is free, donations will be accepted for this year’s
featured charity.
The show, now in its
18th year, is presented by the Smith Mountain Lake Chapter of the
Antique and Classic Boat Society. It includes cruisers, mahogany hulls,
utilities, outboards, runabouts and canoes. Most are locally owned, but
many boating enthusiasts make the trip to SML from surrounding states.
The show will also include vendors with crafts and
nautical items, food and drink, and activities for kids. For more

15-ANNUAL "FOUR SEASONS" PHOTO CONTEST
The
Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce features an annual "Four Seasons
of SML" photo contest open to local amateur photographers. The contest
begins in August and finishes up in November. Judging takes place the
week after the deadline for submission.

at Bernard's Landing Resort and Conference Center at
Smith Mountain Lake. No Pets - No Coolers - No Refunds - Free Parking

October 3, 4, 5th-SML CHARITY HOME TOUR
Visit eight beautiful waterfront homes reflecting a variety of
architectural and decorating styles. Tour by boat or car.
October 25th - Blue Ridge Folk Life Festival - Ferrum.

November 1 - 6th Annual
SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE FALL CHILI FESTIVAL
A full day event featuring music,
crafts and a spectacular Chili cook-off, with awards for Best Chili,
People's Choice and Showmanship! It'll be a hot time at Smith Mountain
Lake with chili tasting, fun, entertainment and awarding of prizes all
at Bridgewater Plaza just off Route 122, Moneta. Children under 12 are
free; Free parking.
December
Christmas Days in Old Virginia - December 6th
December 6th-11th Annual VA. DARE FLOTILLA FOR TOYS CHRISTMAS BOAT PARADE
An evening event, with a parade of boats 'decked out' for the holiday
season with lights and displays. The boats leave port from the Virginia
Dare Marina at 7 PM, travel to Halesford Bridge at Bridgewater Plaza,
finally they circle past the SML State Park before returning to the
marina. This event is a local toy drive with all gifts distributed by
the Lake Area Christian Ministries.
